In the second reading from Paul to the Philippians, he talks about rejoicing in the Lord always and to have no anxiety. Our petitions to God should be accompanied by praise and thanksgiving. This is so important that he repeats it by saying, Again, I say rejoice.

In my life, I have a tendency to plead with God when in trouble and neglect thanking God for the blessings he has bestowed on me and our family. I believe if I focused more on thanking and praising God, my level of frustration would be lessened.

Somthing I have been trying to do this Advent, but not as successful as I would like, is to make a conscious effort at the end of the day to acknowledge the blessings of the day and thank God for them. (An adaption of one of the activities from the book). It does certainly put things into perspective.
